About Erica
Education and Work Background
Larkin graduated from Illinois State University (ISU) with a degree in Economics. She previously worked as an internal auditor at State Farm. Using her experience in bank laws and regulations, Larkin assessed risks and controls, reporting discrepancies to the board of directors. She currently works with Easterseals as a parent liaison. She helps caregivers navigate early intervention for children under the age of 3 who may or may not need the assistance of services like speech therapy, behavior therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, etc. She also substitutes at Brigham Early Learning in the Unit 5 school district. Previously she provided comfort and care to grieving families at Calvert and Metzler Memorial Home.
Personal Experience
Erica and her husband were married in McGraw Park, in District 10, in 2010. They have two cats, Ollie and Helo; and a dog, Brewer.
In 2018, she had her first child. She had four miscarriages previously. Larkin has first hand experience with many of the complexities of women’s healthcare. She has been a passionate advocate for women at all stages of life, sharing her experiences with others since beginning her journey to motherhood in 2015.
In 2020, Larkin had her second child. He was born premature at 34 weeks with a limb difference. His limb difference led to genetic testing, which led to an unexpected diagnosis. Through this experience, Larkin became further involved in the Early Intervention programs offered in Bloomington-Normal, strengthening her determination to give back to the community. A quote Larkin likes to share is ‘The price you pay for living in a good community, is community service,’ by Jay Duckworth. She has shared her experiences openly with other mothers, groups, and championed for the continued funding for these programs.
Community Experience
Erica Larkin has been a resident of McLean County for over 15 years. Larkin is an active member of her community, and an advocate for mothers, families, and children through groups such as: All Our Kids (AOK) Network, Mom Congress, Moms Demand Action, Mothers of Beautiful Babies (MOBB), Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), Postpartum Support International (PSI), Surviving to Thriving, and more. Larkin has served as a leader and on planning committees and fundraising committees through these groups. Larkin has been a member of her Home Owners Association, serving on the board as a member at large. She participates in Benjamin Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization, PTO.
